Reciting the Qur'an in water for a sick person and drinking it

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 3040 ):
Q: Is it permissible for a Muslim to write something from the verses of the Noble Qur'an and drink it, or place it under his pillow, or by the door, or in other such places?
A: As for reciting the Qur'an in water for a sick person and his drinking it, there is nothing wrong with it. It has been reported in [Sunan Abu Dawud ] in the Book of Medicine, from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), what indicates this. As for hanging amulets from the Qur'an or other things, it is not permissible, knowing that the amulets a person hangs are of two types: The first : that they be from the Qur'an. And the second : that they be from other than the Qur'an.
If they are from the Qur'an, the Salaf differed on them with two opinions: The first: It is not permissible to hang them, and this was the view of Ibn Mas'ud and Ibn Abbas , and it is the apparent view of Hudhayfah and 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir and Ibn 'Ukaym , and a group of the Tabi'un held this view, among them the students of Ibn Mas'ud , and that was said by Ahmad in a narration that many of his students preferred and the later scholars affirmed, and this opinion is based on what the Imam Ahmad and Abu Dawud and others narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
spells, charms and love-potions are polytheismإن الرقى والتمائم والتولة شرك
Sunan Abi Dawud 3883Sahih (Al-Albani)
, the Shaykh 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hasan al-Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said in [Fath al-Mujid]: I say: This is the correct one; for three reasons that appear to the one who reflects: The first: the generality of the prohibition and there is no specific exception for it. The second: blocking the means to harm, for it leads to hanging what is not of that kind. The third: that if it is hung, the one who hangs it must inevitably treat it with disrespect by carrying it with him in the state of relieving himself and cleaning oneself and the like. The second opinion: the permissibility of it, and this is the view of 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As , and it is the apparent of what was narrated from 'A'ishah , and this was said by Abu Ja'far al-Baqir and Ahmad in a narration, and they interpreted the hadith as referring to amulets that contain shirk (associating partners with Allah).
And as for if the amulets are from other than the Qur'an and the names of Allah and His attributes, then they are shirk (associating partners with Allah); due to the generality of the hadith:
spells, charms and love-potions are polytheismإن الرقى والتمائم والتولة شرك
Sunan Abi Dawud 3883Sahih (Al-Albani)
. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and his family and his Companions.
