Treatment by a folk doctor who uses jinn
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: There is a group of people who treat patients using folk medicine, according to their own claims. When I went to one of them, he told me: "Write down your name and your mother's name, then come back to us tomorrow." When a person returns to them, they tell him: "You are afflicted with such-and-such, and your treatment is such-and-such." One of them claims that he uses the words of Allah in his treatment. What is your opinion of such people? And what is the ruling on going to them?
S. A. G. - Hail
A: Whoever engages in this practice in his treatment provides evidence that he uses jinn and claims knowledge of the unseen. It is not permissible to seek treatment from him, nor is it permissible to go to him or ask him questions; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about this type of person:Sahih Muslim 2230 Reported by Muslim in his Sahih.
It is also established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) in several hadiths the prohibition of going to fortune-tellers, diviners, and sorcerers, and the prohibition of asking them questions or believing them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam).
And whoever claims knowledge of the unseen by using the casting of stones, or the use of divination sticks, or drawing lines on the ground, or asking the patient for his name, his mother's name, or the names of his relatives, all of this is evidence that he is one of the diviners and fortune-tellers whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prohibited asking and believing.
Therefore, it is obligatory to be cautious of them, and to avoid asking them questions or seeking treatment from them, even if they claim that they treat with the Qur'an; because the habit of the people of falsehood is deception and trickery. It is not permissible to believe what they say. It is obligatory for anyone who knows of one of them to report the matter to the authorities, such as judges, rulers, and the centers of the committees in every country; so that they may be judged by the ruling of Allah, and so that Muslims may be safe from their evil, their corruption, and their consumption of people's wealth unjustly.
And Allah is sought for help, and there is no power or strength except with Allah.
