Slaughter at graves and designating some livestock to be slaughtered at them
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 2450 )
Q4: There are people who slaughter animals at the grave of someone who died in their land in ancient times, and they claim: "So-and-so, the son of so-and-so, is a close friend of Allah." They may also allocate a share of their livestock and crops to these people, intending thereby to seek blessing and to ward off calamity from their children and what they benefit from in their livelihood.
A4: Slaughter at graves and designating some livestock to be slaughtered at them, or some fruits and crops to be eaten at them, are among the actions that Islam has forbidden. It is considered major shirk (associating partners with Allah) if the intention is to draw near to the wali (close friend of Allah) or any other created being, hoping to bring about benefit or avert harm, or hoping for their intercession with Allah, or similar to what the worshippers of graves intend. A similar question was previously sent to the Permanent Committee, and it was answered in Fatwa No. (189), the text of which is as follows.
