The thirteenth question of Fatwa number ( 5005 ):
Q13: Is it permissible to hold gatherings and assemblies on the twelfth day of Rabi' al-Awwal to commemorate the birth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?
A13: Celebrating the birth of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) is a religious innovation (bid'ah); because he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do it for himself, nor did he order it to be done, and none of the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did it for him, although they were the most eager of people to honor the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) and follow his Sunnah. All good lies in following his guidance, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1718a . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
