Belief in the Shadhiliyyah Method

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 2986 ):
Q: There is a method called: the Shadhiliyyah whose followers do not pray, do not fast, and do not pay zakah. There is a person about whom they say: "Our Master." They say that he is like their Lord, that he is their guarantor on the Day of Resurrection, and that he forgives them for everything they give him in this worldly life. These people gather on Monday mornings and Fridays, and on Monday and Friday nights of every week. My father forces me to follow this method and gets angry when he sees me fasting or praying. He says to me this phrase: "Our Master forgives us for everything and protects us from the punishment of the Fire," meaning: we are certainly among the people of Paradise. And of course, this is wrong speech; because he is a person like them, so what should I do? Guide me. I know that Allah is my Lord, and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah and His Messenger, and Islam is my religion, and I perform its five pillars. If I obey my father, I will thereby have contradicted the commands of my Creator, and He, the Exalted, said in His Book:
say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel themفَلا تَقُلْ لَهُمَا أُفٍّ وَلاَ تَنْهَرْهُمَا
[Al-Isra 17:23]
And if I do not obey him, he will remain constantly angry with me and quarrel with me to make me go with him on this method, knowing that I am unable to earn a livelihood for myself, and there is no one in the family who supports me except my mother. What should I do? Guide me so that I may please my Lord and be rid of my father's anger, who is not convinced by prayer and fasting
or, more precisely, by the prescribed Islamic religion by all means?

A: If the reality is as you described, that your father and those with him in that method do not pray, and that they believe their master or shaykh is like their Lord, guaranteeing them Paradise and forgiving them for all the evil they have done, then they are disbelievers. And if your father orders you to be with them and forbids you from prayer and fasting, do not obey him; for indeed
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.”لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق

, and obey what Allah has ordered you to do, and avoid what He has forbidden you, and treat your parents in this world with kindness; in accordance with the saying of the Exalted:
(14) And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. (15) But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
[Luqman 31:14-15]
So be with the sincere believers in believing in what Allah has prescribed and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) has clarified, and in acting upon the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). And bear what harm befalls you in the path of Allah and adhere to the path of those who turn to Allah, for that is better and better in outcome. You should separate from them for fear that they mislead you, and we hope that Allah will provide for you a lawful means of earning by which you can live, for
sustenance is in the hand of Allah, not in the hand of your father or any other of the servants. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
