The seventh question of Fatwa No. ( 3594 ):
Q7: Allah the Exalted says:[Az-Zumar 39:68]
What is the duration between the two blasts, and who are those who do not die between the two blasts?
A7: Determining the duration between the two blasts is among the matters of the unseen that are not grasped by intellect or independent legal reasoning, but only by hearing from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). No authentic hadith has been established from him regarding its specific determination; rather, what has been established is what al-Bukhari and others narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:Riyad as-Salihin 1836 . He did not go beyond saying: forty, and he did not specify whether they are years, months, or days? As for those who do not die between the two blasts, Allah knows them best, Glorified and Exalted is He. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers upon our Prophet Muhammad , and his family and his Companions, and peace upon them.
Q7: Allah the Exalted says:
And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills. Then it will be blown again, and at once they will be standing, looking on.

Between the two Blowing of the Trumpet there will be an interval of forty." The people said, "O Abu Hurairah! Do you mean forty days?" He said, "I cannot say anything."
