The Ruling on the Virtues of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir

Machine translationRead the Arabic original

The tenth question of Fatwa No. ( 3323 ):

Q10: What is the ruling ona person gathering his neighbors to read the virtues of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir;because it leads to loving the awliya (close friends of Allah), and then he spreads out a carpet for them intending to honor the guests; acting in accordance with the hadith:
Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, then let him honor his guest.من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليكرم ضيفه
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2500Sahih (Darussalam)
, so what is the ruling on that? Is it forbidden, disliked, or a recommended practice?

A10: Loving the awliya (close friends of Allah) and honoring the guest are among the beauties of the Shari'ah and what the Book and the Sunnah have encouraged, but adopting the reading of the Virtues of Shaykh 'Abd al-Qadir or similar as a means to love the awliya, and adopting the spreading of the carpet as a custom
in that regard is among the religious innovations (bid'ah) that lead to exaggeration in 'Abd al-Qadir and his like, and it may end up in calling upon him, seeking aid from him, and seeking nearness to Allah through his status in supplication, and that is prohibited by the Shari'ah; because it is either shirk (associating partners with Allah) like seeking aid from him, or a means like seeking nearness to Allah through him or his status, and because much lying and falsehood occurs in the biographies of those called awliya (close friends of Allah), which may lead to exaggeration in them, and better than that is to gather his acquaintances to read the Qur'an and study it, and to read authentic hadiths to know the rulings and take admonition from them. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
