Fatwa number ( 6571 ):
Q: I am from North Africa, working here in the Kingdom, and I ask your Eminence to guide me. I am a Sufi, and I have a shaykh who ordered me to recite tasbih after every Fajr prayer and after Maghrib. However, his group has dhikr circles for these adhkar that begin after the 'Isha' prayer, and they proceed as follows: They start by reciting the Greatest Name, which is (Allah), with elongation and magnification, along with some other adhkar. Then they chant standing up, saying (Allah) until the word melts into Allah, and we remain saying (Ah - Ah). This practice is established in my path, but I have become captivated like some of my companions, and they call us the "Katah" party. I hope you will guide me regarding this dhikr: is it correct, and should I follow it without doubt, or should I abandon it? As they tell us, this Katah is not found in the Book or the Sunnah.
A: It is not permissible for you to take from the shaykh whose condition you described, nor to remember Allah in this manner; because it is an innovation introduced into the religion. You must remember Allah with the adhkar established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after the five prayers and in other times, according to what is in the books of the noble hadith, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ahzab 33:21] And among that is what
is mentioned in [Umdat al-Hadith] by the shaykh 'Abd al-Ghani ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab al-Maqdisi , and [Muntakha al-Akhabar] by al-Majd Ibn Taymiyyah, and [Bulugh al-Maram] by al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on them all). And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الآخِرَis mentioned in [Umdat al-Hadith] by the shaykh 'Abd al-Ghani ibn 'Abd al-Wahhab al-Maqdisi , and [Muntakha al-Akhabar] by al-Majd Ibn Taymiyyah, and [Bulugh al-Maram] by al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on them all).
