Standing in Mourning for the Martyrs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q4: Is it permissible to stand for a minute, for example, in silence as a tribute
to the martyrs, where when a certain ceremony begins, people stand for a minute in silence in mourning or in honor of the souls of the martyrs?

A4: What some people do of standing for a period of time in silence as a tribute to the martyrs or dignitaries, or in honor and respect of their souls and in mourning for them, is among the reprehensible and newly invented innovations that were not in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), nor in the time of his Companions, nor the righteous predecessors. It does not agree with the etiquettes of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and the sincerity of glorifying Allah. Rather, some ignorant Muslims, ignorant of their religion, followed those who innovated it from among the disbelievers, imitating them in their ugly customs and their exaggeration in honoring their leaders and dignitaries, whether living or dead. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade imitating them. What is known in Islam regarding the rights of its people is: making du'a' (supplication) for the deceased Muslims, giving charity on their behalf, mentioning their good qualities, and refraining from their bad qualities... along with many other etiquettes that Islam has explained and encouraged the Muslim to observe with his brothers, whether living or dead. Standing in mourning in silence as a tribute to the martyrs or dignitaries is not among them; rather, this is something that the foundations of Islam reject. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
