A student relayed the fatwa of Shaykh Ali al-Tantawi regarding his inquiry into the permissibility of seeking the assistance of the polytheists among the Americans?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student : As far as we have heard about Shaykh Ali al-Tantawi, he was asked to issue a fatwa on this matter, so he said to them: "At my age, do you want me to declare someone a disbeliever?! My answer is in Surat al-Ma'idah. Read Surat al-Ma'idah and you will find my answer therein." He is referring to the statement of Allah the Exalted:

The Shaykh : "And whoever among you takes them as allies..."
The student :
O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you - then indeed, he is [one] of them
[Al-Ma'idah 5:51]
.

The Shaykh : Have you not received the tapes that were released by me regarding this calamity?!
The student : I have not looked at the tape.

The Shaykh : There is a tape!
The student : He told me, and I was in Aleppo—"Abu Ahmad sends his greetings to you, I was in the eleventh month"—he said: "We heard of a tape by Shaykh Nasir regarding this fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and praise be to Allah, he has now started to return, and people are gathering with him."

The Shaykh : To his activity in da'wah (calling others to Islam).
The student : As for yesterday, some of our brothers here said: "I think it reached five tapes."

The Shaykh : This is the source here!
The student : Approximately twenty-five cassettes, and a few more.

The Shaykh : No, he means regarding the issue.
The student : Regarding the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation).
Another student: Regarding the issue, our Shaykh.

The Shaykh : This is on your honor, isn't it?! No, what concerns me is a tape where I addressed this issue, in which I combined the words ofThe Shaykh : Ibn Baz in his book "Al-Qawmiyyah al-'Arabiyyah" (Arab Nationalism). He has words there, meaning, as ifThe Shaykh : al-Tantawi, if we assume he had no knowledge of it, I took it from the letter. So, I combined, while speaking about this fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), the words of the Shaykh. The Shaykh's previous statement does not agree at all with his subsequent fatwa. "Between them is what the blacksmith made," meaning yes. So, we have a tape with this meaning. Yes, what did you want to say?
