The questioner : May Allah reward the honorableThe Shaykh : May Allah reward you! Allah has honored me with the Hajj to His Sacred House, and I have completed the rites of Hajj. However, when I stayed overnight at Muzdalifah, I became in a state of major ritual impurity, so I was unable to perform the full ritual bath due to the heavy crowd. I performed the ablution for prayer and prayed the dawn prayer, then I went to Mina, performed the full ritual bath, and prayed the dawn prayer at around ten o'clock. What is the ruling? Is there anything required of me? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for one who is unable to perform the full ritual bath to perform dry ablution with clean earth, because Allah the Exalted has granted a dispensation for a person to perform dry ablution with clean earth if he does not find water. If he performs dry ablution with clean earth and prays, his prayer is valid and he does not need to repeat it. If he is then able to access water, it is obligatory for him to perform the full ritual bath if his dry ablution was for major ritual impurity, or to perform the ablution for prayer if his dry ablution was for a state of minor ritual impurity. But what the brother who asked did is valid, because the man has done what we would say: you must repeat it, and he has repeated it. Although it is not obligatory for him to repeat it, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty وَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ
[Al-Hajj 22:78]
