Explanation of the hadith of 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): (The family of Muhammad did not eat barley bread for two consecutive days until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away).

The Shaykh : The third hadith: It is also authentic. He said:
And from 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), she said:
The family of Muhammad (Allah bless him and give him peace) did not satisfy their appetite with barley-bread for before even two consecutive days until Allah’s Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) was taken from this world. ما شبع آل محمد من خبز الشعير يومين متتابعين حتى قبض رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم
Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 142Sahih Isnād (Zubair `Aliza'i)
It was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim, and in a narration by Muslim she said:
Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) died (in a state) that it never happened that he could eat to his fill the bread with olive oil twice during a day. لقد مات رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وما شبع من خبز وزيت في يوم واحد مرتين
Sahih Muslim 2974
.
A single meal might be available to him, but having two meals and two occasions, as people say today, was something that did not come easily to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
In reality, in these hadiths there is refinement for our souls, which have pounced upon this world and become such that they are not pleased with delicious food and drink because of the comfort we have become accustomed to. So when we remember the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions, who are the best of people after the prophets, living this life of severe hardship, it will be, if Allah wills, a lesson for us and a motivation for us to recognize the value of the blessing of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) upon us, and to thank Him (Blessed and Exalted is He) for it, and not to be ungrateful for it.
