The questioner : He says:The questioner : What is the ruling on using the diminutive form of names that contain...

The Shaykh : What?

The questioner : What is the ruling on using the diminutive form of names that contain servitude to Allah (Mighty and Majestic), such as: he gives the example of 'Abbud for 'Abd Allah?

The Shaykh : The diminutive form means...

The questioner : Yes, the diminutive form of 'Abd Allah.

The Shaykh : There is no harm, there is no harm in making them diminutive, because they do not intend by that to diminish the name of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Rather, they intend by this to diminish the one named 'Abd Allah; they call him 'Abid Allah. There is nothing wrong with that. Some of them say: 'Abbud, there is nothing wrong with that. And 'Abd al-Rahman, some of them call him 'Abid al-Rahman, there is nothing wrong with that. And some of them call him Taha'im. This also has nothing wrong with it. And the diminutive form is intended to diminish the one named, not to diminish the name of the Noble Allah. Yes.
