Does Ruqyah conflict with Tawakkul? We request clarification.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner asks: Does Ruqyah conflict with Tawakkul? I hope you will clarify that.

The Shaykh : Tawakkul is sincere reliance upon Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in bringing about benefits and warding off harms. That is, one relies upon Allah with sincere reliance in bringing about benefits and warding off harms, while performing the causes that Allah has commanded. Tawakkul is not relying upon Allah without performing the causes. For relying upon Allah without performing the causes is a criticism of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and of His wisdom (Blessed and Exalted is He). This is because Allah the Exalted has linked effects to their causes. Here is a question: Who was the greatest of people in Tawakkul upon Allah and the most perfect in Tawakkul upon Allah? The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). Did he perform the causes by which he guarded against harm? Yes. When he went out to war, he would wear armor to protect himself from arrows. In the Battle of Uhud, he appeared between two armors, meaning he wore two armors. All of this was preparation for what might happen. So, performing the causes does not conflict with Tawakkul, provided a person believes that these causes are merely causes and have no effect except by the permission of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He). Accordingly, a person reciting Ruqyah over himself and reciting it over his sick brothers does not conflict with Tawakkul. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to perform Ruqyah on himself with the Mu'awwidhat, and it is established that he used to perform Ruqyah on his Companions when they fell ill.
