Explanation of the hadith: (O mankind, fear Allah and be beautiful in your seeking), and clarification of some of what is obligatory upon Muslims regarding the fear of Allah.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Therefore, the previous advice came in the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
O people, fear Allah and be moderate in seeking a living
Sunan Ibn Majah 2144Sahih (Darussalam)
: "Be beautiful" means: take the beautiful, prescribed path in seeking sustenance.
Indeed, what is with Allah is not attained through the forbidden.
That is: it should not be obtained through what is forbidden.
And if you are amazed, then truly amazing is that the Muslims today, to the extent that they care about improving appearances, they do not care at all about improving the inner selves. They adorn themselves outwardly and decorate the walls, sometimes with some noble verses, but the hearts are empty of being affected by any of those verses with which they adorn the walls of their homes and dwellings.
We have seen in many houses signs written in beautiful calligraphy, Thuluth script, surrounded by a gilded frame, containing the saying of Allah the Exalted:
He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
: Do we find any effect of this verse in the hearts of the people who adorn their walls with such a noble verse?
The answer is: No. Satan has beautified for them many deeds to turn them away from the path of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). He deceives them by saying that you only need to believe in the wording and disbelieve in the meaning. This reminds me of what some open sinners do: they are sitting at gambling tables, or at least smoking or playing cards, and when they hear the call to prayer, you find them standing up. What is this standing? It is to honor the Lord of the Worlds. Satan convinces them that this is sufficient for you: to display your honor for Allah (Mighty and Majestic) with such standing. But to honor Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) by following His Shari'ah and following the words of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)—this is forgiven for you as long as you honor Allah merely by hearing the mu'adhdhin say: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Satan beautified their deeds for them and led them astray from the straight path. Likewise, we today adorn the walls with the verse:
He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
: Do we truly believe in this verse and are we greatly pleased with it, to the extent that we adorned our walls with it?!
The reality of the Muslims refutes them if they say: Yes, we believe in this verse:
And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out
[At-Talaq 65:2]
, because when we investigate this matter, many of the rich stand up and say: We have money, so if we do not deposit it in the banks, where do we take it? Thieves will seize it, and they may even overpower the owners, killing them and stealing their money. Is this the speech of one who believes in the saying of Allah the Exalted:
He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
?!
This is despite the fact that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has not blocked the paths for Muslims to care for and preserve their wealth. But Satan also moves these people afflicted with committing riba (usury or interest) to show them the prescribed ways, whether in preserving wealth or trading with it. When one of them says: If we do not deposit the money in the bank, it will be stolen and its owner killed, it is as if one of them sees it as obligatory to put a sign on the place where the money might be secured, saying: Here is the buried treasure. Who would think of doing such a thing? One can deposit the money in a place that no one knows except him or those of his family he trusts. But this is from the scheme of Satan against the children of Adam. So this verse:
And whoever fears Allah
[At-Talaq 65:2]
, like many verses, is something we need to engrave in our hearts, not to adorn the walls of our houses with. And we have some examples of what happened in some times about which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke, so that the Muslim can take from those hadiths an interpretive translation of this noble verse:
He will make for him a way out (3) And will provide for him from where he does not expect.
[At-Talaq 65:2-3]
But the matter requires faith that would be a cause for shaking the mountains from their places, if they only knew.
