Continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Mu'awiyah, in which it is said: (… some of our people go to the fortune-tellers).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : After he (peace and blessings be upon him) answered him with his saying:
So do not be deterred by them. He said: O Messenger of Allah, some of our people go to the fortune-tellers. He said: Do not go to them. فلا يصدنكم، قال: يا رسول الله إنَّ مِنا أقوامًا يأتون الكهَّان، قال: فلا تأتوهم
:
The fortune-tellers are the diviners and astrologers who claim to have contact with the jinn and to discover hidden matters and uncover buried treasures in the earth, among other falsehoods. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So do not visit them فلا تأتوهم
, and it has come in other hadiths:
or who goes to a fortuneteller and believes what he says, he has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad. مَن أتى كاهنًا فصدقه بما يقول فقد كفر بما أنزل على محمد
Sunan Ibn Majah 639Hasan (Darussalam)
.
Then Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam al-Salami said:
Some of our people draw lines. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A prophet from among the prophets used to draw lines, so whoever has a line that matches his line, that is the one. إنَّ منا أقوامًا يخطُّون، قال عليه الصلاة والسلام: قد كان نبيٌ من الأنبياء يخط، فمن وافق خطُّه خطَّه فذاك
The interpretation of this phrase, as the scholars of knowledge say, is:
A prophet from among the prophets used to draw lines. قد كان نبي من الأنبياء يخط
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:753
Meaning: Allah (Mighty and Majestic) had granted him a prophetic miracle through sand, by which he could discover some hidden matters. So whoever among these people has a line that matches the line of that prophet, he is the one who hits the mark. The scholars said: This is a condition based on the impossible, meaning: it is not possible for him to be like the prophet who had this prophetic miracle. And the meaning of this phrase is the same as the meaning of the previous statement, so do not go to them.
Some of our people go to the fortune-tellers. He said: Do not go to them. إن منا أقواما يأتون الكهان، قال: فلا تأهوهم
Likewise, those who draw lines in the sand; he said in another expression: do not go to them, because this was a prophetic miracle for a prophet, and some of the false messiahs claimed it, so they will not be successful and they will not hit the mark.
