Explaining that righteous action is the second pillar and foundation after adhering to the Book and the Sunnah, which every Muslim should be upon.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : As for the other pillar or the other foundation that every Muslim should be upon, it is: righteous action. If a Muslim knows what came in the Book of Allah and in the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), but does not combine action with knowledge, his knowledge becomes a burden upon him. This is as our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) said:
(2) O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? (3) Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do. يا أيها الذين آمنوا لم تقولون ما لا تفعلون كبر مقتًا عند الله أن تقولوا ما لا تفعلون
[As-Saf 61:2-3]
. So among the major sins is for a Muslim to be knowledgeable but not act. It is necessary that his action be in accordance with his beneficial knowledge, and you have known the beneficial knowledge briefly from what was explained previously.
As for righteous action, the scholars have stipulated two conditions for it:
The first condition: that it be in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and that one not deviate from his Sunnah by following his own desire or the desire of others, from those who have passed and preceded, whose desires have led them astray from the straight path. Imam al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated in their Sahihs from the hadith of Usamah ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The knowledgeable man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into the Fire, and the folds of his belly will burst open, and the people of the Fire will roll him over. They will say to him: O so-and-so, were you not one who used to enjoin good upon us and forbid us from evil? He will say: Yes, I used to enjoin good upon you but I did not do it, and I used to forbid you from evil but I did it.
. This is a wonderful depiction by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) of one who knows but does not act upon his knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary for every Muslim that these two pillars or supports be present in him: beneficial knowledge and righteous action.
Beneficial knowledge is what was in accordance with what the Messenger (peace be upon him) was upon, and righteous action is that one be sincere in it to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), as He (Mighty and Majestic) said:
So whoever would hope for the meeting with his Lord - let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone." فمن كان يرجو لقاء ربه فليعمل عملاً صالحاً ولا يُشرك بعبادة ربه أحدًا
[Al-Kahf 18:110]
