If you visit a Muslim brother and he serves you food, is it permissible for you to ask him about its source and from whom he bought it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If you visit a Muslim brother and he serves you food, is it permissible for you to ask him about its source and from whom he bought it?

The Shaykh : The matter varies from region to region. If the food served by that Muslim to his Muslim brother is in Islamic lands where it is predominant that the slaughtered animals are Islamic slaughters, then there is no need to ask here. However, if the situation is different, such as if the Muslim serving the food is in a land of the disbelievers, and it is known that they do not slaughter there except rarely, or if he is in an Islamic land but some meats are imported into it, regarding which there is much questioning about their ruling—whether they are slaughtered or killed—then in these two cases, this Muslim... [regarding] that food, he should ask, because the reason for asking exists due to the strong doubt as to whether this meat is slaughtered or killed.
As for Islamic lands where nothing of these doubts is known, the original ruling is the absence of doubt. Yes.

The questioner : Here with us, chicken comes to us from Denmark, from Brazil... and generally people buy these types. Is there any prohibition in this?

The Shaykh : I have answered this. I said: either it is in a foreign land, or in a land to which such meats are brought, in which case there is doubt. So I have answered this. And yes.
