Why is it forbidden to visit fortune-tellers who use certain means to know some of the unseen?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : One of the brothers says: Why is it forbidden to visit fortune-tellers, who also use certain means to know some of the unseen from the rest of people?

The Shaykh : There is a great difference between the two matters. The fortune-tellers connect with the jinn. As established in the authentic hadiths—and perhaps you all remember this—the jinn steal the hearing, then one of them descends to his companion among the humans and throws into his ear what he may have heard from the sky of what the angels discuss. Then he adds to that many, many lies, so the truth that the jinn heard from the angels' speech becomes mixed with the falsehood that they added to it, and they throw all of that into the ear of their companion among the humans. Therefore, they have been exploiting—and still exploit—this to this day, deluding people that they know what people do not know of the knowledge of the unseen. And because they misled people and were themselves misled by it, the Messenger (peace be upon him) forbade visiting fortune-tellers and said:
Whoever visits a fortune-teller or a diviner and believes in what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad. من أتى كاهنًا أو عرَّافًا فصدَّقه بما يقول ؛ فقد كفر بما أُنزل على محمّد
Sunan al-Bayhaqi 15:741
. As for these doctors, although they are in clear misguidance because they disbelieved in the Lord of the worlds and did not believe in His Shari'ah which He revealed to the heart of His Prophet (peace be upon him), despite this misguidance, they do not claim that they know the unseen. Rather, they explicitly state that the more they increase in knowledge, the more they increase in awareness of their ignorance. How vast is the difference between these who employ scientific means for the benefit of people, and to reveal what harms them and what benefits them, and do not claim any connection to the realm of the sky, and the diviners and fortune-tellers from whom our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) warned us against visiting and believing them.

The questioner : Can one read...?

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : Can one read...?

The Shaykh : Every person looks at the lines here, so you are able to see these lines. I mean, this is not a hidden matter that is specific to some people over others. You look during the daytime; you will find the lines in the nail of every person.
