Learning what is obligatory, forbidden, and permissible in marriage.
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then, it is incumbent upon a person to learn what is obligatory, forbidden, and permissible in marriage so that he may fulfill the obligatory, avoid the forbidden, and enjoy the permissible. It is obligatory for the man and for the woman as well that each treat the other with kindness, as Allah the Exalted said: . As for what some men and women do, where one opposes the other, makes his life difficult, and provokes his anger, this is forbidden and a sin, may Allah protect us from it. And worse than that is the one who, at the slightest anger, divorces and then comes back regretting it. Control your nerves, control your nerves; do not divorce except after reflection, consultation, and thought. Is there any good in divorce or not? So each of the spouses must treat the other with kindness. If the man sees his wife doing something wrong, he should advise her. And if the woman sees the man doing something wrong, she should advise him. And each of them should accept the advice and not be overcome by arrogance in sin. But if the man is negligent about prayer, and the woman advised him, then advised him again, then advised him again, should she keep pressing him constantly?
Answer: No, she should call him to what is right with kindness, because if she keeps pressing him constantly, he will dislike her and hate even what is right. He will say, "I am not going to pray," ... as is well known. But she should do so in the best manner. If she is unable to make him comply, is she sinful for his disobedience? Answer? No, she is not sinful. Allah Mighty and Majestic said to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):[Ali 'Imran 3:20]. She must make the advice clear, but she is not sinful for the husband's disobedience; his sin is upon him. And the same is said regarding the woman. Is the husband allowed to prevent his wife from leaving the house or not? Yes. He is allowed to prevent her from leaving the house. Okay, is he allowed to prevent her from visiting her mother and father? No, unless he fears that the mother will turn his daughter against him, because some mothers—may Allah grant us well-being—turn their daughter against her husband, turning her against her husband. They tell her, "Your husband is not going to give you anything; he will not give you maintenance, nor give you jewelry, nor take you to the rest houses, nor buy you a car, and so on." Then she goes to her husband like foam, easy and soft, and then she comes back, and she is what? She is stone. Why? Because her mother filled her heart against her husband. And the wonder, oh people, the wonder is that this comes from the mother out of jealousy of her daughter that her husband loves her! And it was incumbent upon her, if her husband loved her, to thank Allah that her daughter is beloved to her husband, because this is in the interest of everyone. And what should be known—and it is hidden from many young men and women—is that if intercourse takes place and sexual intercourse occurs, the full ritual bath becomes obligatory, whether ejaculation occurs or not. And some ignorant people think that the full ritual bath is not obligatory except if? If ejaculation occurs. And this is a mistake. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Mishkat al-Masabih 430. So the full ritual bath is obligatory by one of two things: either ejaculation, even without intercourse, or intercourse, even without ejaculation. And intercourse and ejaculation are even more so. Pay attention to this and alert the young men, because people contact us saying that for one, two, or three years he has been having intercourse with his wife without taking a bath, because he thinks that the intercourse that obligates the bath is that in which ejaculation occurs. And that is not the case. Alert your brothers, your brothers and friends, to this and spread it among the people so that the matter does not pass by.
And live with them in kindness
