The questioner : He says: I am informing you that I am one of the residents of Riyadh. I left my home on the fifth day of the festival this year, 1400 AH, heading to the place of the festival prayer, and I found in the main street a sum of money. I have kept it with me and I do not know what to do with it. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good. Since the amount is kept with me, I am waiting for your answer. Thank you?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for one who finds a large sum of money, the kind that people worry about losing, to search for its owner for one year. If the owner comes, he returns it to him; otherwise, it is his. I wish that there were a specific place in every city

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : for these lost items, meaning things that are lost, to be kept by the state so that people can be at ease and be encouraged to pick up these lost items.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Because many people are scrupulous; if they see dirhams in the market or see an item, they do not take it for fear of being occupied with identifying it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : So if there were a place or a responsible authority from the state to keep it, it would be easier for everyone to take it and deliver it to that authority.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And I wish that this would happen, as it is very beneficial. Perhaps the authorities responsible for this matter will study it so that the intended purpose is achieved.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.
These are several questions, and I believe the questioner is a woman. The questioner says.
