Is walking quickly a recommended practice? And is leaving it a dropping of a recommended practice?

The questioner: His EminenceThe Shaykh- May Allah preserve you - , is walking quickly a recommended practice? And is leaving it a dropping of a recommended practice? Especially since some scholars claimed ... in walking is an innovation. I ask for clarification, and may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh: There is no doubt we return to what we mentioned at the end of the previous answer, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad - peace and blessings be upon him - . The Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - was actually a quick walker, and his Companions could hardly keep up with him, and they would exhaust themselves while he did not care about anything. But this is one thing, and running and hurrying are also things that a Muslim should not do, especially when he goes out to the mosque. Many people hurry; that is: they run. And the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him - said in what was narrated byThe Shaykh : in "their two Sahihs" from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah - may Allah be pleased with him - he said: The Messenger of Allah - peace and blessings be upon him - said:
When you come to the prayer, come to it with calmness and dignity, and do not come to it while you are hurrying.
That is: do you run as some people do? And especially when he enters the mosque and finds the imam bowing or in the act of bowing, he runs and a commotion or noise is heard in the mosque from the speed of his walking or running in it. So the Messenger - peace be upon him - said:
When you come to the prayer, come to it with calmness and dignity, and do not come to it while you are hurrying; and whatever you catch, pray, and whatever you miss, complete it.
.
And on this occasion: let the prohibition of the Prophet - peace and blessings be upon him - from hurrying to the prayer, which we said is running and unnatural walking for a human, not cause confusion for anyone. Let this hadith not conflict with His saying - Blessed and Exalted is He - :
O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
The meaning of hurrying here is not the same as the hurrying mentioned in the hadith; that is: the hurrying mentioned in the hadith from which one is prohibited is different from the hurrying mentioned in the verse for which one is commanded. So each of the two words for hurrying in the verse and the hadith has a meaning that fits the context and the preceding text. When he - may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him - said in the hadith:
When you come to the prayer, come to it with calmness and dignity, and do not come to it while you are hurrying.
, the first sentence explains the prohibited hurrying in the following sentence. As for the commanded hurrying in the verse, it is an allusion to the eagerness to set out for the Friday prayer. And at that time, the hurrying here should be interpreted in a meaning that does not contradict the hurrying mentioned in the previous hadith; that is:
O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
; that is: set out earnestly and eager to go to the mosque, but without running. Rather, you must have calmness and dignity. In this way, the verse and the hadith can be reconciled.
So the meaning of hurrying in brief in the verse is different from the meaning of hurrying in the hadith. Hurrying in the verse is the eagerness and setting out to the mosque, but how does one walk? As it came in the hadith:
When you come to the prayer, come to it with calmness and dignity.
