Some claimants of knowledge among the scholars attempt to appoint themselves as guardians over the Islamic awakening; what is your opinion on this?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Some claimants of knowledge among the scholars attempt to appoint themselves as guardians over the Islamic awakening, as I said; what is your opinion on this?

The Shaykh : My opinion is my previous opinion: that there is no benefit in this except if they return to the correct methodology that we constantly emphasize and call for. As we have said, one who lacks a thing cannot give it. So the awakening will continue to move slowly, very slowly, until Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) provides someone who takes it up and guides it to the path that the entire Ummah must follow, in fulfillment of His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He):
if you support Allah, He will support you إِنْ تَنْصُرُوا اللَّهَ يَنْصُرْكُمْ
[Muhammad 47:7]
. There is no doubt that the victory of the Muslims for Allah is for His religion and for acting upon its rulings. This is not possible except through two things that I have always explained and called all Muslims to implement, or what I call "purification and education." If there is no purified knowledge taken from the Book and the Sunnah, it will not benefit except a little. And this knowledge, if it does benefit, only benefits if it is accompanied by action; otherwise, the knowledge becomes a burden on its owner, as is well known from the evidence of the Shari'ah, such as His saying (the Exalted):
(2) O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? (3) Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
[As-Saf 61:2-3]
.
... Some people who claim affiliation with knowledge but are not upon the correct knowledge; this does not benefit anything. We have explained, for example, the meeting that was held yesterday for that scholar who was appointed to a high position when he issued a fatwa that foreign maids are in the position of captive women, for whom it is permissible to see women in their clothing in their homes. Whereas disbelieving free women are like men with regard to Muslim women; it is not permissible for them to see of the Muslim woman except her face and her hands only. And when the heads of households, the husbands and wives, ... until their women would be uncovered before these foreigners, he issued that fatwa with extreme ignorance. Such knowledge, which is not based on understanding the Book of Allah and the Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), does not benefit.
