Is making up the regular voluntary prayer after 'Asr specific to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), or is it general?

The questioner: His EminenceThe Shaykh- May Allah preserve you - , he saysThe questioner : Is making up the regular voluntary prayer after 'Asr specific to the Prophet (may Allah's prayers and peace be upon him), or is it general? I ask for clarification, and may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : The Shaykh: The answer is that making up the voluntary prayer in the time of dislike is not specific to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family); rather, it is a ruling that includes all the individuals of the Ummah. This is because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) that he said:
Whoever forgets a prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers it. There is no expiation for it except that.
,
Whoever forgets a prayer
. The prayer here includes both the obligatory and the voluntary, because he (peace be upon him) did not say "whoever forgets the prayer" with the definite article. If he had said that, it would have come to mind that he meant the obligatory prayer. Instead, he said:
Whoever forgets a prayer
. This general, inclusive meaning is confirmed by another hadith narrated by al-Tirmidhi from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
Whoever forgets the Witr prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers it.
. It is known that the Witr prayer is not obligatory or required according to those who do not distinguish between the obligatory (fard) and the required (wajib). As for the Hanafis, they held the view that the Witr prayer is obligatory, but they have no evidence that stands to prove their claim. Now is not the place to go into detail on that. The point is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) included the Witr and brought it under the generality of the first hadith:
Whoever forgets a prayer
. The stronger position is that the Witr is a confirmed Sunnah, and it, along with the two rak'ahs of Fajr, are the most confirmed of the Sunnahs. The evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) never left them, whether resident or traveling. Thus, this hadith indicates to us that the Sunnah is made up just as the obligatory prayer is made up.
But was the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) making up of the Sunnah after 'Asr, which had been missed by him, a making up of it in a disliked time, such that we ask that question: is it specific to him or does it include all his Ummah? His prayer (peace be upon him) was not in the time of dislike. Here, one should pause a little to learn the details of the disliked time after the 'Asr prayer. This is because some hadiths indicate, by their generality, that the time of dislike after 'Asr begins after the 'Asr prayer. For example, his saying (peace be upon him), which is a hadith agreed upon as authentic:
and there is no prayer after the ‘Asr until the sun has set.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1250Sahih (Darussalam)
. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) was occupied with the delegation of Qays and missed the Sunnah, he prayed it after 'Asr. When he was asked about that, he said:
The delegation occupied me.
. So, it comes to the mind of the one who has the agreed-upon hadith in mind that he prayed it in the time of dislike, because the hadith said:
There is no prayer after the ‘Asr until the sun has set
Sunan Ibn Majah 1249Sahih (Darussalam)
. So he prayed it after 'Asr, and that is why the question arose. But for Allah (Mighty and Majestic), as came in a hadith we are not now in the position to mention—also, because the time has become very tight—from the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud, he said: He (peace be upon him) said:
Indeed, Allah brings about in His affair what He wills—that is, in His religion what He wills—and among what He has brought about is that there is no speech during prayer.
. So Allah (Mighty and Majestic) used to come, rather, He used to reveal the Shari'ah and the opinion to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in stages... He used to come, rather, He used to reveal the Shari'ah and the opinion to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in stages and on various occasions. Speech during prayer was permissible, then He prohibited it with this hadith:
God creates new commands as He wishes, and one of them is that you must not talk during prayer.
Mishkat al-Masabih 989, 990
.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
There is no prayer after 'Asr
Sunan an-Nasa'i 518Da'if (Darussalam)
. But it came in other hadiths:
praying after 'Asr unless the sun was still white, clear and high
Sunan an-Nasa'i 573Sahih (Darussalam)
. So this hadith introduced a specification to the first hadith. The first hadith was general:
There is no prayer after the ‘Asr until the sun has set
Sunan Ibn Majah 1249Sahih (Darussalam)
. As for this second hadith, it said:
Unless the sun is high and clear.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 9:122
. This hadith is authentic, established from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). If that is the case, then when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) prayed the Sunnah that he had missed after 'Asr, he did not pray it in the time of dislike except based on the hadith:
There is no prayer after 'Asr
Sunan an-Nasa'i 518Da'if (Darussalam)
. But since this exception entered it:
Except if the sun is high and pure.
Sahih Ibn Hibban 9:122
, then the prayer that the Messenger (peace be upon him) missed, or the Sunnah that he missed, when he prayed it after 'Asr, he prayed it in a prescribed time that is not disliked. Therefore, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did not leave that Sunnah which he made up after 'Asr; rather, he persisted in it. The evidence for this is what Imam Muslim narrated in his Sahih from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), who said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) did not enter my house one day after 'Asr except that he prayed two rak'ahs .
Unless he prayed two rak'ahs.
" That is: after he prays 'Asr. It includes that they should pray this Sunnah, as I mentioned earlier that he prayed it in the time of dislike, and finally: because he persisted in it.
