Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh:
All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. A woman is the shepherd of the house of her husband and she is responsible as is the servant in regard to his master's property. كلُّكم راعٍ ، وكلُّكم مسؤولٌ عن رعيَّتِه ، الإمام راعٍ ، وهو مسؤولٌ عن رعيَّتِه ، والرجل راعٍ في أهله ، والمرأة راعيةٌ في بيت زوجها ، والخادم في مال سيِّده
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 214
, I heard these from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). This is the statement of Ibn 'Umar confirming that he heard what preceded from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he expresses doubt regarding a phrase, saying: "And I think the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Ibn 'Umar reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, "All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. A woman is the shepherd of the house of her husband and she is responsible as is the servant in regard to his master's property." والرجل في مال أبيه
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 214
" meaning, as an addition to his statement:
the servant is a guardian of his master's property والخادم في مال سيده
Sahih al-Bukhari 2558
meaning, a shepherd.
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 214
meaning: a shepherd. So Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated this hadith by hearing it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with certainty regarding all these phrases, except for his statement:
Ibn 'Umar reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say, "All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. A woman is the shepherd of the house of her husband and she is responsible as is the servant in regard to his master's property." والرجل في مال أبيه
Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 214
, in which he hesitates regarding this phrase only. In any case, if the Messenger (peace be upon him) said:
the servant is a guardian of his master's property والخادم في مال سيده
Sahih al-Bukhari 2558
, then if the one entrusted with the wealth is the man's son, he is also a shepherd and responsible for his wealth, meaning his father's wealth. Responsibility requires that he devote all his effort to preserving his father's wealth. We will not dwell long on this hadith, as we have mentioned that it has been discussed repeatedly before.
