Chapter One Hundred and Four: "The Chapter on the Slave as a Guardian"
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The chapter is the one hundred and fourth, "The Chapter on the Slave as a Guardian." He narrated with his chain of transmission from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 206.
It is clear that the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited this long hadith for the sake of its final section, which is his saying:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 206 to the end of the hadith. As I mentioned in a previous lesson, since there are no longer slaves and masters due to the Muslims' invalidation of, or turning away from, jihad in the path of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), naturally there are no longer slaves for us to discuss the rulings concerning these slaves and their masters. Had we not been in the process of reading a book on the Sunnah, on the Prophetic hadith of the Commander of the Faithful in hadith, namely Imam al-Bukhari, there would have been little benefit in reading these hadiths related to slaves, because as they say today, this research is not relevant. However, we must pass through these hadiths and get a general idea so that the Muslim is aware of what came in the Sunnah regarding slaves. Therefore, we should not dwell too much on this specific section about slaves, but rather we should speak about the preceding sections, as they are related to the lives of Muslims in every age and every land.
All of you are shepherds and each of you is responsible for his flock. The amir of a people is a shepherd and he is responsible for his flock. A man is the shepherd of the people of his house and he is responsible for his flock. A man's slave is the shepherd of his master's property and he is responsible for it. Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock.
It is clear that the author (may Allah have mercy on him) cited this long hadith for the sake of its final section, which is his saying:
A man's slave is the shepherd of his master's property and he is responsible for it.
