Lesson on "Al-Adab al-Mufrad," continuation of the explanation of the hadith of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him): (So you help a person in distress, or you do something for a clumsy person).

The Shaykh : ... that you do something for him, as stated in the completion of the hadith. He said: The person in distress is the one with dependents and the one who is poor. And the clumsy person is the opposite of what people might assume; the clumsy person is the one who has no craft, the one who has no means of livelihood, so you help him with that. For example, if you are a carpenter, and your neighbor has a problem with one of his fixtures or doors, etc., then if you help him when he is unable to do any of that himself, this is charity, and not ... dirhams or dinars. So, if you are unable to do some work to earn money and give it as charity, then at the very least, help a poor person with dependents with his needs using your body, or do something for a clumsy person using your craft.
The Shaykh :The questioner : What stage by stage is the Messenger (peace be upon him) pursuing in his questions? He narrows down the matter, perhaps so that the questioner might benefit. So, in the first instance, he asked him about the best of slaves to free, and it became clear to him that the best of slaves means having a slave with a price, so he would give him as charity. But he is unable to do so, because this requires money to buy such a slave and give him as charity. He said to him: If you are unable to work ... he referred him to helping some of the needy by assisting them with his body. He said: "What do you think if you are weak?" Meaning: I am not one who can ... with money, nor am I one who can help ... with his body and strength. He said:Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 14:47. So, if you do not spend the money ... you have, and you are unable to do work to gather money to give as charity, and you are unable to help a poor person with your body or another with your craft, then at the very least, stay away from evil and free people from your evil. This staying away from evil is a charity that you give to yourself. And this is, in reality, the ultimate divine favor upon His believing servants; where He made the Muslim's staying away from evil and harming others a charity from him that returns to himself.
