Clarification that there is no necessary connection between scientific truth and legal truth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The scientific truth does not mean that every scientific truth agrees with the legal truth, correct?

The questioner: Perfect.

The Shaykh : Fine; but the scientific truth that has become a fact, like the doctor said, the opinion might change; this becomes a theory, not a scientific truth. Likewise, the legal truth is a fixed legal truth; it is not possible for it to be one of the opinions where there is what? Agreement on this legal truth. Here there are two truths that cannot contradict each other at all. This is what we believe in, and you are with us in that.

The questioner : There is no doubt.

The Shaykh : Correct?

The questioner: Perfect.

The Shaykh : Your question, finally, when you returned to the word of Abu Ahmad and I agreed with it; the apparent meaning of your words is that you are not with us in this understanding. You are with us on the basis that the scientific truth must agree with the legal truth, just as the legal truth must agree with the scientific truth. That is the meaning of your words. Or, if you are of the opinion you stated finally that there is no collision between them, not that science has not proven this legal truth, there is no collision. All that is the case is like, for example, the hadith of the fly, do you see? The hadith of the fly:
If a fly falls into the vessel of one of you إذا وقع الذباب في إناء أحدكم
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4262Hasan (Darussalam)
and so on. No one can say that this contradicts science. But we say: science does not support it. And we say: it is our honor that our legal knowledge suffices us, so we do not need to support it with acquired knowledge. So, the fact that medical science does not support the legal medical science, and the example is the hadith of the fly, does not mean that this contradicts the previous rule. Because all that is the case is that experimental medical science has not reached, it is ignorant of this legal medical truth. It does not mean that there is a contradiction.

The questioner : I mean, there is nothing fixed in the Shari'ah that, by Allah, the fly... the error is, there is something fixed medically that, no, it is not correct, is it?

The Shaykh : It is not in the Shari'ah, we are saying in science.

The questioner : In science, I mean.

The Shaykh : Yes, in science.

The questioner : Science means they analyzed it and it became clear that there is nothing new?

The Shaykh : They did not discover this cause.

The questioner : They did not discover it.

The Shaykh : They did not discover it.

Another questioner : And although it is said that they discovered it.

The questioner : They say...

The Shaykh : Allow me, allow me a moment. No, no.

The questioner : They say that some scholars...

The Shaykh : No, my brother, we did not differ. They say; may Allah reward them, but is this opinion correct or not? Another research. And I have studied the subject a lot, and I say: the hadith still remains, despite the fact that many Muslim doctors have written articles, and those who write these articles, some of them due to weakness of their faith, and some in defense of the Sunnah, and these are to be thanked, nevertheless, there is still in the hadith of the fly a legal mystery that experimental science has not reached—and perhaps will not reach—to reveal. If it reaches, that is light upon light. But if it does not reach, we do not doubt the hadith of our Prophet; why? Because there is no contradiction. All that is the case is that experimental science has not encompassed knowledge of this Prophetic knowledge. And so it is with all matters, all the matters for which we are now giving examples, experimental medical science has not reached the revelation of the secrets of these issues. And by way of benefit, in the hadith of the fly, those who defended the authenticity of the hadith said that it is established that in the fly there is something called bacteria, not bacteria, and so on. And I do not delve into what is not my specialty, on the basis of the rule: "Whoever sees the lesson in others, let him take heed!" [Everyone laughs!], so I do not delve into the details. But I had read... in my mind, but the thing they never circled around and thought that the experimental scientific medical doubt was finished, no; because in the hadith it says: in one of its wings is a disease and in the other is a cure. This has not been discovered by science; correct, Doctor?

The questioner : Although I heard... what is said about that, a scientific research in foreign books that has not reached us, originally they did not touch on that; the scholars; that there is, for example, a germ.

Another questioner : The Chinese scholars say.

The questioner : Not Chinese... what I know medically.

Another questioner : ... the doctor there, they said that they reached it.

The questioner : What I know medically, I heard about it that there are germs and anti-germs, and if these germs and their opposites meet, they destroy each other and the harm goes away.

The Shaykh: Yes.

The questioner : As you mentioned, my Shaykh.

The Shaykh : In any case, there is still something more precise than this; first, in one of its wings is a disease and in the other is a cure. What I read is that the fly carries germs in its legs containing bacteria, but the hadith attaches the matter to the wings. Then the more precise secret, if it falls, is the wing that has the disease; and therefore the command came for what? For dipping, so that the cure mixes with the disease and the cure destroys the disease. But this medicine has not investigated this point at all, even the medicine infused with Islam, we are talking about, not the disbelievers! Do you see? Therefore, I believe in Allah and in what came from the Messenger of Allah, and for your sake I will tell you so that you are at peace of heart and in accordance with what is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), do you see how? I believe in Allah and in what is authentic from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I do not care if medicine discovered this secret or did not discover it; it will never discover it; I am a believer.

The questioner : My Shaykh, this happened a week ago in a national newspaper.

The Shaykh : And what is it?

The questioner : He said: this is what we wanted to talk about... he mentioned the hadith of the fly, my Shaykh. He started in his speech attacking the beard; meaning we went out of scope... do you think the topic has had its fill if... but the incident was about the fly topic you mentioned. He says that the Messenger (peace be upon him)... in growing the beard... has no role... with the intention of distinguishing from the disbelievers, although at the time of the Messenger (peace be upon him) there were no shavers like these days.

Another questioner : We do not say now that the Christians and the Zoroastrians and such... and such, they are all growing beards.

The questioner : This is new, this.

Another questioner : This is from...

The questioner : ... the new first article in which they attacked "Kamal al-Sharif"...
...

Another questioner : ... he said: do we want to eat flies?! His answer: he said: this is a hadith whose authenticity is not certain!!

Another questioner : The hadith of the fly, he said: there is no doubt that the hadith is authentic.

The Shaykh : Who says that?

Another questioner : "Kamal al-Sharif" defends the topic of the fly, and says: the hadith is not certain to be authentic.
...

The questioner : ... it would be better that, as Muslims, we do not volunteer to raise topics of this kind among people who, let me say, are less committed to the religion than us; because we drag ourselves and they drag us into positions we are in no need of... they accuse us that we have no concern, we talk about the fly... about such things, and that we move away from the major, generally the big matters... perhaps what makes Shaykh Ali... I mean, I do not know that, initially, this argument cannot come from the side of Shaykh Ali or from my side or from the side of any of the people... but it comes as a biography... about Shaykh Ali, and I hope for the satisfactory answer from him, so he asks him about it, Shaykh Ali gives you an answer as he knows it from the Book and the Sunnah. From here the problem starts, from here the one with the same Shaykh Ali, in a state of... or adopting this idea merely for discussion with you, not merely for belief in it, he takes on the character of the person who holds this idea... from the people who raise it to you in the same way, even to see the defenses you will speak, and thus...

The Shaykh : May Allah reward you with good... about Ali, but you may have remembered, I told him: if you are speaking about yourself or about someone else, I mentioned this speech!

The questioner : ... meaning, for example, it is ... one of the ideas you mentioned a moment ago; that, my brother, the Noble Qur'an was revealed in a clear Arabic language, and I am an Arab!

The Shaykh : What Allah willed!

The questioner : So I understand the Noble Qur'an. Then, did it only come down to the Companions? It came down to all people, so I understand from it.

Another questioner : But you need to ask him ... complete the verse in Arabic words in the language you spoke.

The questioner : I did not say that to him. I said to him: What is the meaning of
And by the night as it closes in وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ
[At-Takwir 81:17]
? He said to me: What does "as'as" mean? ... He said: No, there are things I understand. Why do you go and bring me a word that is not in common use now?

The Shaykh : So now you are treating him the way Al-Albani treated the priest!

The questioner : What did he do to the priest?

The Shaykh : It is not ... other than the story of Al-Albani and the priest?!
