Explanation of the Hadith: “Why did they not ask when they were ignorant? For the cure of ignorance is asking.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This is a hadith from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Why did they not ask when they were ignorant?! For the cure of ignorance is asking.
, the cure for ignorance is asking. And our Lord (Mighty and Majestic) says in the Noble Qur'an:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.
[An-Nahl 16:43]
. The first hadith:
Why did they not ask when they were ignorant?! !
has a very great connection; it is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a detachment for jihad in the path of Allah, so a battle took place between the Muslims and the polytheists, and those who were wounded among the Muslims were wounded. One of them had a wet dream at night; when he woke up in the morning, he found that he had had a wet dream, so he had to perform ghusl. He asked those around him, “What is my situation? My whole body is covered in wounds; do I have a dispensation not to take a bath or perform ghusl?”
And do not drink with your left hand, may Allah reward you; because this is drinking that is prohibited.
They told him: No, you must perform ghusl. So he performed ghusl, and these wounds became infected in him, his temperature rose, and the man died. When the news of him reached the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), he said:
They killed him, may Allah kill them!
, meaning: those who issued the fatwa to him that he had to perform ghusl as if he were healthy were the cause of his death, so he invoked death upon them
They killed him, may Allah kill them! Why did they not ask when they were ignorant?! For the cure of ignorance is asking.
. And therefore, we say in many of our gatherings and lessons that the method of receiving knowledge is not limited to one person taking a shaykh and attending with him morning and evening to receive private lessons, but rather even through the way of asking:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.
[An-Nahl 16:43]
. And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: May Allah have mercy on the women of the Ansar; their modesty did not prevent them from seeking knowledge in religion.
And the righteous ate your food, and the angels prayed for you, and the fasting people broke their fast with you.

The questioner : With health and well-being.

The Shaykh : Welcome.
