The first hadith: From Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah - may Allah be pleased with them both - who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah - peace and blessings be upon him - say: Sahih Muslim 2205b, narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
Since ancient times, in all lands - not just in the Arab lands - people have practiced certain treatments that they reached through ... experience, including cupping, honey, and cauterization with fire, a prick of fire, meaning: a very light burn from a fire for treatment. So the Messenger - peace and blessings be upon him - clarifies that if there is good in the treatments and medicines you practice, the good is in the incision of a cupping horn; a simple cut that the cupper makes in some part of the cupped person's body so that the blood is sucked out from it.
And in ancient times, as it appears to us from what we read of these hadiths and others, the means they used for cupping was very primitive. So after this incision and cut, they would sometimes place a horn ... on the body, either ... the cupper with his strength, and in this way the blood would gush out from the cupped person's body. But today, the means has something of ... what? Yes, it has something of civilization, meaning progress, as you know, they take a cup and empty the air from it with ... a paper and place it on the place of this incision, so you find the blood coming out with force; so that means that when the blood first starts to flow out of the body from a place in the body ... and there is no air pressure where it comes out of the cup, the blood comes out.
And ... Allah - Mighty and Majestic - who perfected the creation of everything, established this system that when the human body is incised and the cupping horn is placed on it, the pure, clean blood does not come out, but rather the black, corrupt blood comes out, which is the cause of some of the diseases from which the person complains. And this hadith that Jabir ibn 'Abd al-Ansari - may Allah be pleased with him - narrates for us, and some of the Tabi'un transmitted it, the reason for his narrating it and their transmitting it is that he visited a group of the Ansar, and he found there a sick man complaining of wounds in him. When he saw him, Jabir asked for a cupper. So this wounded patient was shocked; he said to him: Why a cupper? He said: In order to extract the blood for you. The man was very afraid, he said: I cannot bear a fly landing on my body because of how sick and sensitive I am; so how can this blood be sucked out? So he did not impose what he wanted on him, but he narrated this hadith which says that the good is in cupping. Then the cupper came and cupped him, and he was cured. This person who could not bear or stand the landing of flies on his body became healthy and sound after the cupping.
If there is any effective remedy amongst your remedies, these are (three): Cupping, drinking of honey and cauterisation with the help of fire. Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had said: As for myself I do not like cauterisation.
Since ancient times, in all lands - not just in the Arab lands - people have practiced certain treatments that they reached through ... experience, including cupping, honey, and cauterization with fire, a prick of fire, meaning: a very light burn from a fire for treatment.
