Is it permissible to use certain drugs that numb the body and mind for specific hours due to a person's condition?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Eid Abbasi : Part of the question: Using certain drugs that numb the body and mind for specific hours due to a person's condition, in that he is sometimes anxious or tired or does not get sufficient sleep?

The Shaykh: Yes.

Eid Abbasi : This aspect?

The Shaykh : If the use of these sedatives or narcotics is prescribed by a Muslim doctor, and we say: a doctor and a Muslim, for a very clear reason; because the question stated that the man is tired, so he needs to use some of these sedative narcotics; this is feared to lead to addiction over time, so it is not permissible for a Muslim to proceed to use any of these narcotics because they are forbidden. And we firmly believe that smoking, by which the masses of Muslims have been afflicted, in addition to others, is forbidden, because of the harm in it, and the numbing, and the training and habituation of this person to not be patient without smoking; therefore, you find those afflicted with it and addicted to it, instead of breaking their fast with sweet dates in Ramadan, which the Messenger (peace be upon him) encouraged breaking the fast with, you find them preparing their state and preparing the cigarette and the match as soon as they hear the call to prayer, so that they break their fast with this foul thing. So it is not permissible to consume narcotics, because the original ruling for them is prohibition, except for dire necessity, for dire necessities permit the prohibited, and dire necessity is estimated by its amount.
So personal use of narcotics is not permissible except with the permission of a Muslim doctor. A doctor, because he knows the craft, what benefits and what harms, and what is suitable for this tired person or patient or similar. And a Muslim, because he forbids what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden, and he is not like those disbelievers who do not forbid what Allah and His Messenger have forbidden.
