The Shaykh : ... Praise be to Allah; we praise Him, seek His help, and seek His forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evils of our own selves and from the badness of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever He leaves to misguide, none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
[Ali 'Imran 3:102]
,
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
[An-Nisa 4:1]
,
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
[Al-Ahzab 33:70-71]
. As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire.
I came across an article by Shaykh al-Islam Ahmad ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) in which he explains the virtue of the people of hadith, and that the people of hadith are the saved sect, and that they are the ones to whom a Muslim should adhere in his religion and follow in his madhhab. Anyone who possesses some correct Islamic culture knows who Shaykh al-Islam Ahmad ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) is. In the briefest possible terms, one who has no culture or knowledge of the virtue of this learned man can know the reality of his knowledge and virtue if he knows that it has been possible for some students of knowledge in this time to collect from his fatwas and letters, which he composed in response to the questions of questioners from various Islamic lands in his time, a collection of those fatwas and letters comprising thirty-five volumes of this size. This is rare, as they say, among the great. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him, and may He reward him for Islam and the Sunnah with good) is, in reality, one of the rare scholars who raised the banner of the Sunnah high and established it against the various foreign innovations in Islam, whether they were philosophical, creedal, jurisprudential, Sufi, or any other innovation from which Islam disavows itself. Shaykh al-Islam was the only imam who stood up to oppose all the people of innovation in their various types, paths, and schools. Therefore, I considered it obligatory upon me to let you hear something of the man’s words, especially since this speech is about what we have been calling for for more than a third of a century: following the Book and the Sunnah and not following any other madhhab than the madhhab of the people of hadith. Therefore, I see that I should let you hear a section of his words so that you may understand the importance of the madhhab of the Sunnah, which is the madhhab that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) bequeathed to his Companions, and they in turn bequeathed it to those after them, and then every one who came after them and guided by their guidance was not satisfied with anything but the Sunnah as his madhhab.
