The Shaykh : The chapter that follows, "The chapter on appointing the eldest," is narrated beneath it with a good chain of transmission from Hakim ibn Qays ibn 'Asim, that his father left a testament to his sons on his deathbed, saying: "Fear Allah and appoint your eldest, for when a people appoint their eldest, they succeed their father, and when they appoint their youngest, that will be a source of disgrace for them among their peers. And hold fast to wealth and its acquisition, for it is a source of dignity for the noble one, and it is by it that one is spared from the base one. And beware of asking people for help, for it is among the last of a man's earnings. And when I die, do not wail over me, for no one wailed over the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And when I die, bury me in a land that Bakr ibn Wail does not know of my burial, for I used to outwit them in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance."
