Explanation of the Chapter on Appointing the Eldest, Under Which Is the Hadith of Hakim ibn Qays ibn 'Asim That His Father Bequeathed to His Sons Upon His Death, Saying: "Fear Allah and Appoint Your Eldest."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The chapter that follows, "The Chapter on Appointing the Eldest," contains a narration under it with a hasan chain from Hakim ibn Qays ibn 'Asim that his father bequeathed to his sons upon his death, saying: "Fear Allah and appoint your eldest, for when a people appoint their eldest, they follow in their father's footsteps, and when they appoint their youngest, it disgraces them in the eyes of their peers. Hold fast to wealth and its acquisition, for it is a source of dignity for the noble one, and it allows one to be independent of the base one. Beware of asking people for things, for it is among the last of a man's earnings. And when I die, do not wail over me, for no one wailed over the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And when I die, bury me in a land where Bakr ibn Wail will not be aware of my burial, for I used to outwit them in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance." This is a bequest from one of the Companions to his children, containing many of the wills that children typically need, that they should hold fast to them, and that they should be constantly reminded of them and act upon them?
