The correct meaning of His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He): “And Allah protects you from the people.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh:
And Allah will protect you from the people
[Al-Ma'idah 5:67]
, He did not say: “He protects you from making any mistake whatsoever.” Therefore, this verse has no connection to the previous topic. However, it is appropriate, given that we have mentioned this verse, to briefly explain its intended meaning. After we have established that the verse does not mean the Messenger is protected from making any mistake, however small, we clarify what is actually intended. This is clear from the reason for the verse’s revelation. When the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) would descend into a battle against the polytheists and the disbelievers, they would build a shelter for him in a place away from the battlefield. He would sit there, and some of his Companions would guard him specifically at night, fearing that one of those disbelievers might assassinate him. One night, while the Messenger (peace be upon him) was in his shelter or tent, and Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) was guarding him, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) put his head out of the tent or shelter and said to him, or to someone else among those guarding him: انصرفوا
Go away; for Allah has revealed to me: “O Messenger, convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah protects you from the people.”
; meaning: By Allah, He protects you from the people so that they do not assassinate you or manage to kill you before you convey the message and fulfill the trust. Allah protects you from this; so do not worry about fearing for your life being killed before you fulfill this duty that He has charged you with.
O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people
[Al-Ma'idah 5:67]
.
This is an interjected statement regarding this verse, first to clarify that it has no connection to the previous revelation, and second to explain its concise meaning.
