A discussion on the importance of preachers’ attention to the Sunnah, and an explanation of the misguidance of those who call for attention to the Qur’an alone, or what they call the “

The Shaykh : ... [An-Nisa 4:1], [Al-Ahzab 33:70-71], As for what follows:
Indeed, the best of speech is the speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), and the worst of matters are their innovations, and every innovation is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Fire. And after that:
I spoke to you recently about the point that Islamic preachers must begin their work with, and we spoke at length in detail about how what must be started is “purification and education.” We rambled a lot about purification, and we summarized it by saying that purification of this Islam, in which the good and the bad, the truth and the falsehood, have become mixed, must be based on the Book and the Sunnah. I believe that no Muslim disagrees with this point; that is, that purification must be based on the Book and the Sunnah. There is no disagreement on that, except perhaps regarding some of the modern and very modern sects that have emerged in this present age. I personally do not rule out that they are among those sects created by the colonizer, whether Eastern or Western, whose aim is to increase the weakness of the Muslims through this new division that he formed and fabricated. I mean the sect called today the “Qur’aniyyun.” This sect has begun to spread its call among the ranks of the Muslims, and this call is based on casting doubt on the Sunnah and its authority, and it is based solely on relying on the Noble Qur’an. In my opinion, if they had been able to cast doubt on the Muslims even regarding the establishment of the Noble Qur’an, and that it is the revelation of the Lord of the Worlds upon the heart of his Noble Prophet, they would not have held back from doing so. But when they found that casting doubt on the authenticity of the Noble Qur’an was an impossible matter, they resorted to attacking the Sunnah in terms of its authority and its establishment.
In reality, attacking the Sunnah is an attack on the Noble Qur’an itself, and this is part of their wickedness and their plotting; because they know for certain that in the Noble Qur’an there are many verses that explicitly state the obligation to obey the Messenger?[An-Nisa 4:80], and they contain a return to the Book of Allah, and another thing is the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), such as His saying (Blessed and Exalted is He): [An-Nisa 4:59]. Since the return to Allah, the scholars, all of them, the Salaf and the Khalaf, agreed that the intended meaning of the return to Allah is the return to His Book; because it is self-evident that no person, however close to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He), is able to return to Allah; except for some of the chosen, righteous messengers. And since the matter of prophethood and messengership has ended, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ; for that reason, the scholars agreed that the intended meaning of the return to Allah is the return to what Allah revealed, namely His Book and His Qur’an. And they also agreed that the intended meaning of the return to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), [An-Nisa 4:59]; that is, to his Sunnah. So in the verse, a possessive is omitted: return it to Allah, meaning to His Book, and to the Messenger, meaning to his Sunnah.
So this verse is among many verses that explicitly state that any dispute that may occur between Muslims, or between two Muslims, has no solution except by returning to two sources: the Book of Allah and the hadith of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). It is not as these modern innovators today say, that the obligation is to return to the Qur’an only. These people, in their misguidance of the people, call themselves the “Qur’aniyyun,” claiming affiliation with the Qur’an unjustly, falsely, and deceptively. If they had truly returned to the Noble Qur’an, they would have found in it such texts that command returning to something additional to the Qur’an, namely the hadith of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) or his Noble Sunnah. Therefore, it is not possible to imagine a true Muslim who believes in the Qur’an truly, who denies the authority of the Sunnah; because by doing so, he would not be acting upon the Qur’an which he claims to use as evidence.
For that reason, the Muslims, despite their differences in schools of jurisprudence and sects, from the time Allah (Mighty and Majestic) revealed the Noble Qur’an to his Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until today, have followed the obligation to use the Book and the Sunnah as evidence, and not only to use the Qur’an alone as evidence. The Muslims agreed on this and did not differ; rather, they differed on whether there are other sources to which one must return in addition to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. As for the Sunnah, praise be to Allah, the Muslims did not differ that it is the second source after the Noble Qur’an for Islam. So these people who claimed to be Qur’aniyyun came and began to spread among the people that the Noble Qur’an is the only reference in Islam and in the legislation of Islam. And this, in reality, means casting doubt on the Qur’an itself; because the Qur’an was brought by our Messenger (may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him) as revelation from Allah to him = -- and peace be upon you -- = and this Noble Prophet has a quality by which he is distinguished from all other people, namely that he is protected from speaking ... or making a mistake ... (Blessed and Exalted is He):[An-Najm 53:1-4], [An-Najm 53:3-4] ... the Qur’an indicates that the Messenger (peace be upon him), everything he utters ... is from the revelation of the heavens. And this is not because of the Qur’an only, otherwise our Lord ... from speaking words that have no benefit. Rather, the truth is that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in this verse intends that ... for that reason, the hadiths came one after another, confirming that this ... regarding their comprehensiveness and generality for the speech of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
... his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) in ... to the end of the hadith; that is, I do not find any of you reclining on his bed, on his couch, speaking with arrogance ... and saying: “This Book of Allah is our only reference; what we find in it as lawful, we make lawful, and what we find in it as forbidden, we make forbidden.” There is nothing in the Qur’an that contradicts the Messenger (peace be upon him). This type of Muslim, he says:, . Why? Because when he speaks and when he utters, he only utters what is revealed to him, as you heard in the previous verse = -- and peace be upon you -- = so this is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), his Lord informing him, before this sect existed by about fourteen centuries, that there will be people who claim that Islam is only the Qur’an, and by this claim they deny the Qur’an itself, let alone the hadith of the Messenger (peace be upon him) and his Sunnah.
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.
(70) O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice. (71) He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
