Explanation of the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), in which he said:

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : It is narrated through chains of transmission from trustworthy scholars, who quote the text of the hadith:
There will be among my Ummah in the last times people or groups who will tell you hadiths that neither you nor your fathers have heard; so beware of them... يكون في أمَّتي في آخر الزمان ناسٌ أو أقوامٌ يحدِّثونكم من الأحاديث بما لم تسمعوا أنتم ولا آباؤكم ؛ فإياكم وإياهم أن ...
or as he (peace be upon him) said. Imam Muslim and others cite this hadith to warn the Muslim against accepting any hadith he hears without verifying its transmission by taking it from trustworthy scholars who do not accept a hadith except from a reliable source. Thus, it is as if he is saying: Do not narrate any hadith, but rather verify it; for there will be people who come after the Messenger (peace be upon him) who will fabricate hadiths that have no basis. And his (peace be upon him) statement in this hadith:
of which neither you nor your fathers have heard بما لم تسمعوا أنتم ولا آباؤكم
Mishkat al-Masabih 154Sahīh (Zubair `Aliza'i)
; meaning: they will tell you hadiths that have no basis;
so beware of them فإياكم وإياهم
. Therefore, the purpose of the hadith is to be careful in narrating hadiths from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), lest a Muslim happen to hear a hadith from such liars who tell people things that neither they nor their fathers have heard.
And may He reward you as well.

Eid Abbasi : There is a quote attributed to, I think, Abu Yusuf: "Whoever seeks out strange hadiths will be lied to, and whoever seeks wealth through alchemy will go bankrupt."

The Shaykh: Yes.

Eid Abbasi : I think the meaning is close to this: strange hadiths.

The Shaykh : Yes, indeed, those that have no basis.
