Allah the Exalted said:

None will burn in it except the most wretched

لا يَصْلاهَا إِلَاّ الأَشْقَى

[Al-Layl: 15] Meaning: None will be burned by it except the most wretched,Meaning: the one for whom wretchedness has been decreed, and refuge is sought in Allah, and wretchedness is the opposite of happiness,because of His saying, the Exalted:

As for those who were [destined to be] wretched, they will be in the Fire. For them therein is [violent] exhaling and inhaling.

فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ شَقُوا فَفِي النَّارِ لَهُمْ فِيهَا زَفِيرٌ وَشَهِيقٌ

[Hud: 106] ,

And as for those who were [destined to be] prosperous, they will be in Paradise

وَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ سُعِدُوا فَفِي الْجَنَّةِ

[Hud: 108] So the meaning of the most wretched is the one for whom happiness has not been written, this is the one who will burn in the blazing Fire,Then He explained this by His saying:

Who had denied and turned away.

الَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى

[Al-Layl: 16] Denial is in contrast to the news, and turning away is in contrast to the command and prohibition, so he denied the news and did not believe,It was said to him: You will surely be resurrected,He said: I will not be resurrected,It is said: There is a Paradise and a Fire,He said: There is no Paradise and no Fire,It is said: It will be so and so,He said: It will not be, this is denial, (turned away) Meaning: He turned away from the obedience of Allah and turned away from what His messengers brought, so this is the most wretched. We ask Allah to protect us and you from wretchedness.
