Abu Layla recounts to the Shaykh about an incident with some intelligence officers who visit his shop for the sake of testing him.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student : I don't remember, my Shaykh, I told you a while ago that some people called on the phone, meaning they were unknown to me, and they said, "We know you," and they were saying thatThe Shaykh : Nasser issued a fatwa regarding jihad for Afghanistan, about the youth going there and so on. I asked them, "Is this a new fatwa or an old one?" They said, "New, just two days ago." I said, "As far as I know, the last fatwaThe Shaykh : that I am aware of nowThe Shaykh : was one that stopped going there and so on. They said, "We just want you, myAbu Layla : brother, to help us because there are young men who want to go out for jihad, some of them, and we need help from a financial, monetary side and so on." I said to them, "In any case, by Allah, sometimes a poor sick person comes to us with a prescription and we are at a loss as to where to go to get it."

The Shaykh : What is this?
The student : He did not bring up the matter of the Shi'ah. So, the important thing is, about a third of an hour before Maghrib today, a young man stopped by me, and his appearance—so that I can turn...—

The Shaykh : ... Yes.
The student : A young man came in before the sun set today, half an hour or a little less, and his appearance, glory be to Allah, was... from the intelligence. Even before he entered, my Shaykh, he asked me, "Did he come in a flustered state?" Meaning, he was saying to me, "Peace be upon you." I said, "And upon you be peace, please come in and rest." He sat down and said, "By Allah, I came to you about a matter and I hope you can help me with it." I said to him, "I am ready, if there is a way, please go ahead." He said, "My brother, I want to go to jihad in Bosnia and Herzegovina." I said to him, "Okay, and what do you order me to do?" He said, "Help me, meaning guide me to go there." I said, "By Allah, I don't have... actually, the issue of jihad, I do not see jihad in Bosnia and Herzegovina, so that I do not laugh at you. First, I do not listen to radio broadcasts, by the grace of Allah, nor do I read newspapers." He said, "My brother, by Allah, yesterday I read a headline in the newspaper that made me think, exactly." He said, "There are unknown entities in the countries that send their members to such and such." I said, "By Allah, my brother, I have no knowledge."

The Shaykh : A landmine, a landmine.
The student : I said, "But my dear brother, do you imagine that there is jihad there?" He said, "Yes, and what... yes, there are Muslims there, but these Muslims, the issue of jihad, my brother, requires detail, it is not like this. The issue of Palestine, there is no jihad. I, regarding a Shaykh, I take and give with him because I know him. He said to me, 'My brother, why is this?'" I said to him, "Jihad has conditions. Now you say, 'I will go, I will go to jihad.'" He said, "Yes... you fight with your own self and your own clothes... grow your beard and then go to jihad." I said to him, "My dear brother, jihad is not easy, and now there is no one who raises the banner of jihad. Even in the Gulf crisis, a banner was raised in Iraq for jihad." He said, "I know that, I know that, that talk is not correct." I said to him, "I know that too. The second one, the sister of the first one, the important thing is what? Naturally, a long conversation took place between us, and I had to... I said, 'My dear brother, this talk, first of all, there is nothing in it. In brief, I will guide you to something more important than that. Your prayer that you are praying, did you pray it like this, 'We found our fathers upon a religion,' or not upon a religion, nor upon knowledge?' He said, 'By Allah, not upon knowledge.' I said to him, 'Then improve your prayer. Do not talk about jihad if you think that you do not know how to pray and you want to die in the path of Allah, how will your death be?' So, the important thing, I also said to him, 'Your creed. If I asked you a question about the creed, you do not know how to answer it, even this, even this.' The man started listening. He came to sell, my Shaykh, he started buying from the grace of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), until I said to him, 'I will give you some gifts now, some of which are loans that you return to me, and some are gifts. This is a booklet on the creed, you read it, if Allah wills, and you return it to me. And this is the adhkar for you, permanently. And this is for you, permanently. Here we have two tapes, one is "The Effect of the Apparent on the Hidden: Reform..." it will benefit you so that you know that the Muslim who wants to go to jihad needs to have foundations. The origin appears in the inner self."

The Shaykh: Yes.
The student : It also appears in... So, I am giving you these now, if Allah wills, you will benefit from them, and if Allah wills, you will visit us, and we need... and praise be to Allah. Naturally, I started explaining to him, my Shaykh, meaning extensively, as is not hidden from you. The man, as is not hidden from you, my Shaykh, now the shop, glory be to Allah, is very crowded, and not usually by way of... my Shaykh, we know them, meaning their signs are strange, glory be to Allah.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is right.
The student : It is as if we know them, glory be to Allah. He turns the jilbab like this... he listens to what you say all the time, my Shaykh, meaning as they say, as long as you are in the shop, your words, by the grace of Allah, your voice is heard, even if people come in and there is talk, it may be about politics, I do not stop it, that is it, meaning.

The questioner : He mentioned the meaning of the talk and then referred to the fatwas, but the talk in the fatwas and stuck in my mind is the talk of the Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah. As for here, he says on the topic regarding jihad, I read, of course, the jihad of the hypocrites... which manifests in loosening the ranks, weakening the resolve, spreading fear among people, and sowing doubts, doubts, and rumors. He said (Mighty and Majestic):
Allah would not leave the believers in that [state] you are in [presently] until He separates the evil from the good
[Ali 'Imran 3:179]
, and He said:
But when a precise surah is revealed and fighting is mentioned therein, you see those in whose hearts is hypocrisy looking at you with a look of one overcome by death
[Muhammad 47:20]
, and He said:
And when there comes to them
[An-Nisa 4:83]
.

Another questioner : My master,
May Allah beautify a man
the hadith of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
May Allah beautify a man
a single man.

The Shaykh : Yes, my brother, may Allah bless you, we have letters on this issue.

The Shaykh : Yes, she has an expiation for an oath.

The questioner : The expiation for an oath.

The Shaykh : Yes, and it is not permissible for her not to speak; she must speak if it is good.

The questioner : O Shaykh.

The Shaykh: Yes.
