Visiting Relatives and Maintaining Family Ties
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! A person has the habit of visiting his relatives, and these relatives have some prohibited things in their homes, such as what is called the dish (satellite dish), knowing that they are aware that the ruling on this is forbidden. Should he cut off visiting them, or should he visit them?
If he has relatives, then maintaining ties with relatives is obligatory, even if they are in a state that is not pleasing; For Allah the Exalted said: [Luqman: 14-15] and He did not say: kill them,Rather He said: [Luqman: 15] Likewise, maintaining family ties is obligatory even if the relative is in a state that is not pleasing. It is obligatory for you to maintain ties with them, even if they have the dish, whose harm is much greater than its benefit. Most people have exploited it for what is forbidden, and they have wasted their time and money with it, and the morals and ideas of many people have been corrupted by it.
If they are using it (the dish) for what is forbidden and you are present, then you do not go to them so that you do not participate with them in the sin. And with this, we advise the person to fulfill the right of the relative by giving advice,Meaning: He goes and advises them and explains to them that this is forbidden -Meaning: watching what is forbidden is forbidden - so that he fulfills what Allah has made obligatory upon him of advising them and being kind to them.
If he has relatives, then maintaining ties with relatives is obligatory, even if they are in a state that is not pleasing; For Allah the Exalted said:
(14) And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination. (15) But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Me [in repentance]. Then to Me will be your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do.
