[Reconciling Allah’s statement in the Qudsi Hadith: “My son Adam hurts me: he curses time”,and His saying, the Exalted: “in days of ill omen”]
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,Allah the Exalted says: “My son Adam hurts me: he curses time”. So what is the ruling on praising time? And what is the interpretation of Allah’s statement: [Surah Fussilat: 16]?
Allah’s statement in the Qudsi Hadith: “My son Adam hurts me: he curses time” means: he curses the time—the period, the night and the day. Cursing the night and the day is cursing Allah (Mighty and Majestic); for it is He (Glorified and Exalted is He) who is the Manager of what happens in the night and the day.And for this reason, He said in the same Hadith: “And I am the Time; in My hand is the command; I alternate the night and the day”. As for praising time in the sense that a person praises his Lord through it, rather than praising the days and nights, there is nothing wrong with that; this is good.He says: For example, these days are days of joy, and days of safety and prosperity, praise be to Allah. They are blessed days, and so on. There is nothing wrong with that. But as for praising time while forgetting its Creator (Mighty and Majestic), who is Allah, that is not permissible; for praising the cause—while neglecting the true cause in reality—is a disparagement and a diminishment of the true cause, which is Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
And as for His saying (the Exalted): [Surah Fussilat: 16]. The One who disparaged these days is Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and He has the right to praise whatever He wills of His creation,And to blame whatever He wills of His creation. But tell me: What is the answer to Allah’s statement regarding Lut: [Surah Hud: 77]? The answer to this is said to be: Lut (peace be upon him) did not intend to disparage this day; rather, he intended to report about this day that it was severe and that it distinguishes between intention and lack of intention in things. Have you seen if a person came to ask about a sick person, and the sick person merely reported the facts to this man? And another person came to ask about another sick person, and the sick person complained to him? The first man’s action is permissible, and the second man’s action is blameworthy. For how can one complain to the created about the Creator? And it has been said:
And if you complain to the son of Adam, you are only complaining to the Merciful about the One who does not show mercy.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said,Allah the Exalted says: “My son Adam hurts me: he curses time”. So what is the ruling on praising time? And what is the interpretation of Allah’s statement:
So We sent upon them a screaming wind during days of misfortune

وَقَالَ هَذَا يَوْمٌ عَصِيبٌAnd if you complain to the son of Adam, you are only complaining to the Merciful about the One who does not show mercy.
