Ruling on the saying: "He has fallen from the eye of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
As for the phrase of one who says: When we disobey Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, and stray from what Allah has commanded, do we fall from the eye of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He?
This is an expression the Arabs use to mean that a person’s status and standing with Allah, Mighty and Majestic, diminish. They do not mean that the person was in the eye of Allah and then fell out of it. Never! That does not even cross their minds. But they mean by their saying: "He has fallen from the eye of Allah."

Meaning: His rank with Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has diminished. Some distinguished scholars who are certain to possess a knowledge of tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and creed that many people, indeed many scholars, cannot reach, may use this expression. This is what is intended. If the intended meaning is known and there is no ambiguity in any way, there is nothing wrong with using the expression. As the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Mu'adh when he said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! Are we to be held accountable for what we say?"He said: May your mother mourn you, O Mu'adh! And what causes people to fall into the Fire on their faces -or he said: "on their snouts—except the harvest of their tongues") So you see that this is a supplication against him that his mother should lose him, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not intend this. Rather, he used an expression the Arabs use to mean urging adherence to this matter. And if some scholars say: The meaning of: "May your mother mourn you, O Mu'adh!" If you do not restrain your tongue;Because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I inform you of the key to all of that?"He said: Yes,O Messenger of Allah! So he took hold of his own tongue and said: "Restrain this") But the first meaning is the correct one,And similar to his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): "A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her lineage, her beauty, and her religion. So marry the one with religion, and your hands will be dusted with dust") And the meaning of this phrase is: your hands became poor until they stuck to the dust. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not intend this; because he is urging to marry the one with religion, so he cannot be supplicating poverty against him. Rather, the intended meaning of this expression is urging what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided to, which is marrying the one with religion.
