Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (And what makes you know that it might purify him)

Allah the Exalted said:
And what makes you know?وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ
[Abasa:3] meaning: What pains you that this man might purify himself and his faith might strengthen?
Perhaps he will be purified.لَعَلَّهُ
[Abasa:3] meaning: Perhaps Ibn Umm Maktum
He will be purified.يَزَّكَّى
[Abasa:3] meaning: He might purify himself from sins and character traits that are not befitting for someone like him. If this is what is hoped for him, then he is more deserving of your attention.
Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَى
[Abasa:4] meaning: He might take a lesson and the admonition would benefit him, for he (may Allah be pleased with him) is more likely to take a lesson and remember than those people.
