The Ruling on Leading a Latecomer in Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Does the ma'mum (one praying behind the imam) have to intend the intention of ihram in the takbir of ihram if he did not catch the beginning of the prayer with the imam?
Yes.
If the ma'mum arrives while the imam is praying, whether he catches him in the first rak'ah, the second, or any after that, it is obligatory for him to say the takbir of ihram.

The questioner: The takbir of ihram for the one who missed the prayer with the imam,For example: A person arrives and the imam has already said the taslim, and he wants to follow the ma'mum.

The Shaykh: I mean, is there a ma'mum who is making up his prayer? The questioner: The ma'mum is masbuq (one who joins the prayer late), the imam said the taslim and stood up to complete the rest, and he did not catch the prayer with the imam in congregation. He wants to follow this ma'mum. Is the intention required to complete the prayer by following this ma'mum? The Shaykh: Is the intention of imamah (leading the prayer) required for the masbuq who is making up his prayer? The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh: First: This action is not required, and it is not prescribed (mashru') for you to come and find a person making up what he missed of the prayer and join him as if you are the ma'mum and he is the imam. This is not prescribed (mashru'),And the scholars differed on its permissibility, and some of them said: It is permissible,And some of them said: It is not permissible, but the correct view is that it is permissible, but it should not be done; because if he joins this ma'mum, then if the ma'mum intends that he is the imam for him, the prayer of the masbuq and the prayer of the one who joined last are valid. But if he does not intend that he is the imam, the well-known view in the madhhab of Imam Ahmad is that the prayer of the one who joined is not valid; because he intended to follow one who did not intend to lead, so his prayer is invalid, and consequently he must repeat it.

The second opinion in the issue is: That it is valid to follow one who did not intend to lead, and based on this view, the prayer of the ma'mum is valid. But it should be noted from the principle that this is a matter that is not prescribed (mashru'), and we do not command a person to do it,So if he comes and finds a person making up his prayer, do we say: Join him? No.
We do not say to do such a thing.
