Is it prescribed to enter the prayer as a follower behind one who is making up his prayer after the imam has concluded, and is it a condition that the latecomer intends to lead the prayer?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the name of Allah.
Your Eminence, is it a condition for the follower to intend the intention of consecration in the takbir of consecration for one who did not catch the beginning of the prayer with the imam?

The Shaykh : Yes, if the follower arrives while the imam is praying, whether he catches him in the first rak'ah, the second, or any after that, it is obligatory for him to say the takbir of consecration.

The questioner : The takbir of consecration for one who missed the prayer with the imam, meaning a person who arrived and found the imam concluding, and he wanted to follow the follower.

The Shaykh : Meaning, a follower who is making up his prayer?

The questioner : The follower is a latecomer, the imam concluded and stood up, and the other one completed the prayer, but he did not catch the prayer with the imam in congregation, and he wanted to follow this follower. Is it a condition to intend to complete the prayer with the follower?

The Shaykh : Is it a condition for the one making up the latecomer's prayer to intend to lead the prayer?

The questioner : He intends to lead the prayer, yes.

The Shaykh : First: this action is not required nor prescribed, that you come and find a person making up what he missed of the prayer, and you enter with him as if you are the follower and he is the imam. This is not prescribed, and the scholars differed on its permissibility: some said it is permissible, and some said it is not permissible. Do you understand?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : But the correct view is that it is permissible, but it is not recommended. Rather, if he enters with this follower, if the follower intends that he is the imam for him, then his prayer is valid, the prayer of the latecomer and the prayer of the one who entered last.
And if he does not intend that he is the imam, the famous view in the madhhab of Imam Ahmad is that the prayer of the one who entered with the latecomer is not valid, because he intended to follow one who did not intend to lead him, so his prayer is invalid, and based on this, he must repeat it.
The second opinion in the issue is that it is valid to follow one who does not intend to lead you, and based on this opinion, the prayer of the follower is valid. But note that originally this is a matter that is not prescribed, and we do not order a person to do it. If he comes and finds a person making up, we do not order him to do this.

The questioner : Okay, Shaykh, what about supplication in the prostration of recitation?

The Shaykh : You have gone beyond the question.
