Ruling on one who performed wudu and prayed Fajr while in a state of major ritual impurity, fearing he would miss the congregation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
In the previous monthly session, I was asked about a man who prayed Fajr while in a state of major ritual impurity. He feared he would miss the congregational prayer, so he performed wudu and then prayed. So when I was asked about it, I said: The better and more preferable course is to repeat the prayer. Does your statement (the better and more preferable course) mean that he is not obligated to repeat the prayer as an obligation?
The correct view is that if he did so out of ignorance, he is excused for it. Just as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) excused the one who prayed incorrectly and did not order him to make up the prayers he had missed, and just as he excused the woman who had irregular non-menstrual bleeding and used to leave off prayer, and just as he excused 'Ammar ibn Yasir when he rolled in the dust, thinking that this was what was obligatory for him in dry ablution. There are many proofs for this.
