[The Meaning of the Saying of Allah the Exalted: (And you see the mountains, thinking them stationary, while they pass by like the clouds)]

His Eminence the Shaykh: What is the meaning of the statement of Allah the Exalted:
And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of cloudsوَتَرَى الْجِبَالَ تَحْسَبُهَا جَامِدَةً وَهِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحَابِ
[Surat al-Naml: 88] When will this occur? And what is the manner of their passing?
This will occur on the Day of Resurrection,For Allah the Exalted said:
(87) And [warn of] the Day the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will be terrified except whom Allah wills. And all will come to Him humbled. (88) And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of cloudsوَيَوْمَ يُنْفَخُ فِي الصُّورِ فَفَزِعَ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا مَنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ وَكُلٌّ أَتَوْهُ دَاخِرِينَ * وَتَرَى الْجِبَالَ تَحْسَبُهَا جَامِدَةً وَهِيَ تَمُرُّ مَرَّ السَّحَابِ
[Surat al-Naml: 87-88] And this is the meaning of their being dust, and the Qur'an explains parts of itself,And whoever interpreted it : by interpreting it as the rotation of the earth in this world.
He has spoken about Allah without knowledge; rather, he has said what contradicts the statement of Allah (Mighty and Majestic); for Allah mentioned this after the blowing of the Trumpet.

And as for His saying:
And you see the mountains, thinking them rigidوَتَرَى الْجِبَالَ تَحْسَبُهَا جَامِدَةً
[An-Naml 27:88]
That the Day of Resurrection is entirely certainty, and nothing in it can be called estimation or conjecture,It is said: Indeed, Allah the Exalted said:
(1) O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the convulsion of the [final] Hour is a terrible thing. (2) On the Day you see it every nursing mother will be distracted from that [child] she was nursing, and every pregnant woman will abort her pregnancy, and you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicatedيَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّ زَلْزَلَةَ السَّاعَةِ شَيْءٌ عَظِيمٌ * يَوْمَ تَرَوْنَهَا تَذْهَلُ كُلُّ مُرْضِعَةٍ عَمَّا أَرْضَعَتْ وَتَضَعُ كُلُّ ذَاتِ حَمْلٍ حَمْلَهَا وَتَرَى النَّاسَ سُكَارَى وَمَا هُمْ بِسُكَارَى
[Surat al-Hajj: 1-2] And despite this, Allah says:
you will see the people [appearing] intoxicated while they are not intoxicatedوَتَرَى النَّاسَ سُكَارَى وَمَا هُمْ بِسُكَارَى
[Al-Hajj 22:2]
And this will occur on the Day of Resurrection.
