The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah reward you. The saying of Allah the Exalted: [An-Naba 78:20] And in the verse from Surat al-Naml: [An-Naml 27:88] How is there reconciliation between them?
The Shaykh : Texts have been transmitted regarding the Day of Resurrection that differ in this and in other matters. Even regarding the children of Adam, it was reported that they will be gathered blue, meaning the criminals among them, and it was reported:[Ali 'Imran 3:106] All of this has no contradiction between it, because the duration of the Day of Resurrection is fifty thousand years, so conditions change, shift, and differ. If we see that the weather differs in this world between evening and morning, between one day and another, between one week and another, between one month and another, and between the beginning and end of a year, then the mountains and conditions on the Day of Resurrection change from one state to another. Therefore, we say that all the texts regarding the Day of Resurrection that appear to contradict each other do not contain any contradiction, and the answer is: Yes, they are understood as referring to the changing of conditions, because the duration of the Day of Resurrection is fifty thousand years.
And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.
