On the interpretation of the verse: “And you see the mountains, thinking them stationary, while they move like the clouds”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : Our esteemed Shaykh, may Allah preserve you: Regarding the interpretation of the verse:
And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds وترى الجبال تحسبها جامدة وهي تم مر السحاب
[An-Naml 27:88]
. Shaykh al-Sha'rawi interpreted this as proof of the earth's rotational movement, stating that the comparison of the movement of clouds carried by the wind is like the movement of mountains carried by the moving earth. Shaykh al-Sha'rawi argued that on the Day of Resurrection, it will not be a calculation but a reality, and that the earth and heavens will be completely changed, so you will not see therein any crookedness or deviation, on the earth. Do you have a word on this topic? May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : Naturally, I do not have at my disposal the verses that came before this verse, but what I know from the past scholars of exegesis regarding His saying, the Exalted:
And you see the mountains, thinking them rigid, while they will pass as the passing of clouds وترى الجبال تحسبها جامدة وهي تم مر السحاب
[An-Naml 27:88]
is that this is the day the earth is changed to other than the earth. So this change, in the other verse
And the mountains are removed وسيرت الجبال
, does not occur in this era in which people live in tranquility on this earth, but rather it is on the day the earth is changed to other than the earth.
