[The Ruling on Drinking What Is Called (Beer)]
What is the ruling on drinking what is called beer, knowing that there are two types: one type contains a percentage of alcohol, and the other type contains no percentage of alcohol? Is it among the intoxicants?
The beer found in our markets is all halal; because it has been inspected by the authorities, and the original ruling for every food, drink, and clothing is that it is lawful, until evidence establishes that it is haram.because of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [al-Baqarah: 29] So anyone who says: this drink is haram, or this food is haram,Tell him: bring the evidence. If he brings evidence, we act according to what the evidence requires. If he does not bring evidence, his statement is rejected;Because Allah (Mighty and Majestic) says:[Al-Baqarah 2:29] Everything on earth,And he confirmed this generality by saying: So anyone who tells us: this is halal and this is haram, we demand evidence from him. If he brings evidence, we act according to the requirements of that evidence. If he does not bring evidence, his statement is rejected. So the beer found in our markets here in Saudi Arabia is all halal and there is no problem with it, if Allah wills.
As for the percentage, do not think that any percentage of khamr in something makes it haram. If the percentage is such that it has an effect, meaning if a person drinks from this mixture with khamr and becomes intoxicated, it becomes haram. But if it is a negligible percentage that has diminished and its effect has vanished and it has no effect, then it is halal.
For example: A percentage of (1%) or (2%) or (3%) does not make the thing haram, and some people thought that the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): (Whatever intoxicates in large quantity, a small amount of it is haram) means: whatever is mixed with a little is haram even if it is a lot, and this is a wrong understanding. The hadith: (Whatever intoxicates in large quantity, a small amount of it is haram) means: the thing where if you increase it, intoxication occurs, and if you decrease it, intoxication does not occur, then the small amount and the large amount are haram. Why? Because you might drink the small amount and then your soul urges you to increase it, and you become intoxicated. As for what is mixed with an intoxicant and the percentage in it is small and has no effect, this is halal and does not fall under the hadith.
